Have you ever helped someone and feel fulfilled after doing it? Have you ever inspired by someone who is helping someone on the road?

Abdul Sattar Edhi is one of the most respectful and notable personalities in Pakistan. He worked his whole life helping and providing for others. He did not let other countries donate; he said I would only take Pakistanis’ money. He worked for children, widows, poor and older people.

Empty words and long praises do not impress God. Show Him your faith by your deeds — Abdul Sattar Edhi.

Edhi foundation is a non-profit organization that is serving humanity for years. But after the death of Edhi sahib, the numbers of funds dropped down significantly. Consequently, we decided to collect some funds for the Edhi foundation for this Ramadan. Edhi Sb took the initiative and build the organization that is serving thousands of people today. It had an immense impact on people’s lives that is immeasurable. It’s our turn to take the lead and contribute to society and prove that how simple and small acts can create endless ripples.

It was a two-week activity to convince people to donate to the Edhi foundation. It was the time to use technology to the fullest to gain results.

For the first week, we decided to use social media to collect funds. We used Facebook and WhatsApp statuses to collect donations. We also personalized the text messages and sent them to our families and friends. Fortunately, we were able to collect some donations. Some contributors were not comfortable sharing the amount. So, we didn’t force them and solely received the receipts.

We posted on LinkedIn as well. However, we weren’t able to get any response. We contacted local communities and businesses but no vail. When we didn’t get replies, we didn’t stop there. We phone called our friends and family to convince them to donate.

At this point, we had setbacks and got discouraged when people did not respond. But self-resilience and self-reliance fuel our passions. People face hundreds of failures before getting a single success. By keeping in mind the four principles of Amal that are,

Amal

Khudi

Kam Kam Kam

Ayk aur Ayk Gyara

We implement all the principles and learn along the way. Practicing and learning side by side made the whole process exciting.

After one week, we applied all the best strategies we could employ to get the best results. We decided to Collab with another team. We asked one of the teams to Collab with us, and they agreed. We planned a meeting to discuss our strategies. We decided to join Facebook groups related to donations, and we made a charity box to collect from the shops. We again personally texted our friends and family. This time we were able to collect more donations.

Some of the members thought that its an easy task and they would easily collect a lot. But when we started working there were few replies. We were feeling down and didn’t want to contact any more people. But we still tried again and changed our strategies to overcome our failure. Here, we learned another lesson. To get successful in anything, you have to face hindrance.

We are very, very small, but we are profoundly capable of very, very big things — Stephen Hawking.

The lessons we learn from this activity are so valuable and practical that we can apply them in every practice of our lives. Failure is what makes success enjoyable. If one plan is not working, switch to another and another until you see results. Never give up too early.

This activity also made us realize how we can change our society if we only start to work together. The most important one is that the change begins with you. You will never be able to change anyone if you are not willing to change yourself.

We are going to apply all these worthy lessons in our life. We will strive to become better and better each day until we become the best version of ourselves.

Here are some photos from the activity:
